It is believed by many of our foreign patients that illness is only one part of their life, and it doesn't have to disrupt their lives or keep them from enjoying life. At the same time, our domestic patients tended to believe that their illness would have a seriously negative effect on their lives and that some diseases cannot be avoided. In their way of thinking, an illness is only the beginning of another method of life and it is not the end of life.
It is believed by some people who come down with a serious illness that it is the end of life as they know it. As difficult as it is to cope with a serious illness, it is very important to maintain a positive outlook on life and only we as individuals can be responsible for our own happiness.
There is a story about a child who was born with spinal bifida. He had to have 10 operations after he was born, and he may have to spend his entire life in a wheelchair. One day his father asked him if he could choose to live the life of a completely healthy boy or if he would live the life he has now, what would he decide. The boy said "My life is great now because whenever I go to Disney World, I can go to the front of the line."
The positive outlook of this child and his ability to accept things as they are is inspirational. Believe in miracles. Life is beautiful. The best is yet to come.
I hope that every patient can face each day with a big smile!
