October 12, I have taken over the case of an 8-year-old boy from Argentina with Batten disease. He has had hyperactivity and distractibility since he was 3 years old, then ataxia, loss of speech, seizures, poor back strength; it was difficult for him to walk without some assistance. Yesterday, he received the first stem cell injection; the procedure went well, no postoperative fever or headache, and his general condition was good. Currently he can crawl with his hands, moving significantly easier than originally. There are no more epileptic seizures; his hyperactivity has also been alleviated. Now, after just one injection, there has been good improvement and I believe these improvements will continue over time.
