Jane M. Paterson-Parkinson disease (Scotland)

NAME: Jane M. Paterson

SEX: Female

COUNTRY: Scotland

AGE: 57

DIAGNOSIS: Parkinson's Disease

Beginning of Treatment: May 6, 2008

Before Treatment:

Jane was presented with stiffness and weakness in all 4 limbs and slow movement for the past 8 years, pain in her legs for the past year. She was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.  Jane had rigidity on the right side of her body and her movements were slow. The disease progressed slowly and as time passed, she got weaker. The symptoms disrupted her daily life. She was diagnosed with Parkinson's syndrome 6 years ago. She took Ropinirole HCI and Selegiline HCl to control the symptoms, but she had pain and edema in her lower limbs after she took these medications, so she stopped taking them and started taking Madopar. One year ago, she received treatment in our hospital and the movements on the right side of her body became more coordinated. Later, she experienced pain and some discomfort in both lower limbs. So she came to our hospital again for further treatment.

Upon arriving at our hospital this time, she had writing difficulties, trouble with fine motor skills such as tying her shoelaces and fastening clothing, problems with daily activities like combing her hair, brushing her teeth and washing her hair, and difficulty cutting her food. Her hands would tremble when trying to perform these tasks.

Her right leg would freeze up when she tried turning around or changing directions and she would often have leg cramps. She needed assistance getting into and out of bed and getting into a car; she was only able to sleep on her back and was unable to turn in bed.She could not flex her right ankle or move her toes on her right foot. She had little strength in her arms and legs.

Treatment:

Jane received 4 neural stem cell injections.

After Treatment:

The rigidity, weakness and restless feelings in Jane's legs were largely alleviated. She can now turn over in bed and her movements are more flexible. Her hands also move more flexibly. The tremors are gone and the muscle force of her trunk has improved.
