Francis-Sequela of cerebral infarction (Australia) Post on May 13, 2011

Name: Francis John Jones
Sex: Male
Country: Australia
Age: 63
Diagnoses: 1.Sequela of cerebral infarction 2. Hypertension-level 3, very high risk 3. post deep vein thrombosis syndrome
Admission Date: 2011-04-05
Days Admitted to the Hospital: 31

About four years ago adverse events caused a motor dysfunction on the left side of Francis'  body. His speech became slurred. When Francis went to a local hospital he was given a CT examination of the head which showed no obvious intracranial hemorrhaging or signs of infarction. After the MRI examination of the head, Francis was diagnosed with a lacunar infarction. He received appropriate treatment and one month later was discharged from the hospital and continued with rehabilitation training, including body functional training, massage, and acupuncture.

Before being admitted to our medical center, Francis was presented with a motor dysfunction on the left side. There were no obvious speech problems.
There was a visible abdominal surgical scar. There was skin damage and pigmentation on the lower limbs. Francis had a hemiplegic gait. The respiratory sounds in both lungs were clear, with no obvious dry or moist rales. The heart rate was regular, and there was moderate systolic murmur in the mitral auscultation area. The abdomen was distended. There was no pressing pain in the abdomen; the liver and spleen were not touched under the ribs. There was no swelling in the lower limbs.

During the nervous system examination, Francis was alert and in good spirits and was responsive. His memory, orientation, and calculation abilities were all normal. Both pupils were equal in size and round, the diameter was 3.0mm's and reacted normally to light stimuli. Both eyeballs could move normally and the eyes had strong closing ability. The head could turn normally. The right shoulder had strong shrugging ability, but the left shoulder was weak, and sagged. There was obvious atrophy in the deltoid muscle. The muscle strength of the left upper limb's proximal-end was level 3, and the distal-end was level 0. The muscle strength of the left lower limb's proximal-end was level 4- and the distal-end was level 3-. The left foot was unable to perform the dorsiflexion movement. The muscle strength of both right limbs was level 5. The muscle tension of both left limbs was high. There was tendon contracture in the left wrist joint. The muscle tension of both right limbs was normal. The bilateral abdominal reflexes were not elicited. The palm jaw reflex of the left side was positive. The bilateral Babinski's sign was positive. The deep and shallow sensation was normal. The composite cortex sensation was normal. The right side could finish the finger-to-nose-test and the heel-knee-shin test normally. The left side couldn't finish the digital opposition test, rapid rotation test, the finger-to-nose test or the heel-knee-shin test. There were no signs of meningeal irritation.

Before the start of the stem cell treatment, we gave Francis a complete examination. He then received treatment to improve the blood circulation in order to increase the blood supply to the damaged neurons and to nourish the neurons. He was also given treatment to lower his blood pressure. This was combined with daily physical rehabilitation training.

After the treatment, Francis' overall condition had shown obvious improvement, the motor ability has improved. The muscle tension on the left side of the body has decreased. The motor functioning is better than before. The left upper limb¡¯s range of motion has increased, and can be raised to his chest when he is in a lying position. He can bend and stretch the elbow joint by himself. The wrist joint can stretch passively. The left hand's gripping ability has improved. The movements of the left lower limb are more flexible than before, he can walk with slippers, and climb stairs slowly. The left foot can be raised off the floor and is able to do a small range of dorsiflexion movements.

I was a restaurant manager before the cerebral infarction. And I have had hypertension for many years. Four years ago, I had the cerebral infarction. Then I lost interest in life and became depressed and received counseling psychology. After 1 month of treatment in a Vietnamese hospital, I went to a hospital in Australia for further treatment. The doctor and I made every effort to improve my condition. Two months later, I stood up from the wheelchair and walked by myself. After the discharge, I insisted on physical rehabilitation. The doctor in Australia was not too familiar with stem cell treatment. I found some good doctors in Vietnam, they gave me some assistance with physical exercises. As time went on, I found the rehabilitation training was not helpful in the long term, so I looked for new treatment options on the internet and found out about Wu Stem Cells Medical Center. After consulting with the doctor, I decided to come to Wu Stem Cells Medical Center for their stem cell treatment.

To tell the truth, when I first arrived here I didn't understand much about stem cell treatment. After the admission, all my questions were answered by the doctors. I want to say to the person who is scared, with the lumbar puncture: Throughout this process, you only need to position yourself on one side, bend your knees, lie on the bed, and listen to the doctor's instructions. You will only feel a little bit of pain and the procedure will finish quickly.

All the doctors are very professional. I received physical rehabilitation training everyday. Now my condition has had good improvement, I can walk up and down stairs. The doctors told me that I will make even more progress, because the stem cells will grow continually.

Before the discharge, Francis baked a special cake for all the staff members at the medical center and designed the Wu Stem Cells Medical Center logo on the cake. He shared the cake with all the staff members at our center.
